Project management of large-scale redundancy exercise

For an engineering services company

Bond Legal were instructed by an engineering services company to design, plan and project-manage a restructure which involved making a large number of staff redundant. We helped the Company develop its strategy for implementing the restructure. This included preparing an announcement, which warned employees of the potential redundancy situation and clearly articulated the business rationale. We then designed a redundancy consultation timeline which set out the process by which discussions with staff and trade unions would take place. We worked in partnership with the Company’s senior management to ensure that consultations over the redundancy situation would be both legally compliant and sufficiently thorough, to ensure fairness to those affected by the restructure.

In conjunction with the Company’s HR team, we led on consultations with trade unions and individual staff members, ensuring that the business case for the restructure was clearly set out and any alternatives to redundancy fully explored. We also prepared a written set of ‘questions and answers’, which helped affected employees, and their representatives, better understand the process being adopted.

Following our input, the Company’s restructure was successfully implemented within the required timescales, whilst ensuring that those under threat of redundancy were treated with fairness and compassion.
